Courier Mode: delivering messages when there is no signal

How LTE.app's Courier Mode turns your phone into a mesh relay β€” picking up encrypted packets from offline travelers and delivering them when connectivity returns.

The problem with dead zones

Dead zones are everywhere β€” mountain trails, remote villages, airport terminals during outages, border crossings, national parks. In these places, standard connectivity fails completely. Not "slow" β€” gone.

Most apps give up at this point. Courier Mode doesn't.

What Courier Mode does

When you enable Courier Mode, your phone becomes a silent message carrier. You pick up encrypted packets from nearby LTE.app users who have no connectivity, carry them as you move, and automatically deliver them when you (or another courier) comes online.

No action needed. No interaction required. Your phone does it in the background.

How the delivery chain works

  1. Person A is at a remote trailhead with no signal. They send a message, an SOS, or an eSIM request β€” it's encrypted and queued on their device.
  2. You walk past with Courier Mode on. Your phone detects theirs via Bluetooth and silently picks up the packet.
  3. You continue your hike, cross a ridge, and come back into range.
  4. Your phone connects to the internet and automatically delivers the packet β€” completing Person A's message without them ever needing connectivity.

Four situations where this matters

Airport & transit zones β€” Gate-area connectivity is unreliable. Courier Mode lets messages hop between travelers until they reach someone online.

Emergency SOS β€” SOS broadcasts hop device-to-device until they reach a user with a connection, who can relay the emergency to responders.

Dead zones β€” Hikers, field researchers, and off-grid travelers exchange data through Courier Mode and have it delivered when the route passes through coverage.

Offline AI transactions β€” LTE.app's QHPA smart assistant can queue eSIM purchases and plan decisions while you're offline. Couriers carry these encrypted decisions through the dead zone and complete the transaction when connectivity returns β€” no action required from you.

End-to-end encrypted, always

Every packet is encrypted before it leaves the sender's device. As a courier, you carry ciphertext β€” you cannot read the content. Your identity on the network is a local key pair: no account, no email, no server required.

Earning as a courier

You earn LTE Tokens for every packet you carry and successfully deliver. Tokens accumulate during active Courier Mode sessions and appear in your Earnings screen. The more couriers on the network, the more reliable delivery becomes β€” especially in popular travel corridors.

Courier Mode is available on Pro and Premium plans. All relay activity is voluntary and anonymous.
