What your eSIM provider knows about you — and what LTE.app doesn't

eSIM providers sit between you and the carrier. What data do they collect? What do they share? And how does LTE.app handle your data differently?

What eSIM providers can technically see

When you use a travel eSIM, data flows: your device → carrier network → internet. The eSIM provider (the company you bought the plan from) sits upstream of the carrier.

What providers can log: - Which plan you purchased and when - Total data consumed per day - Device IMEI (required to issue the eSIM QR) - If they inspect traffic: which domains you visit, when, how much

What providers cannot see (without active interception): - Specific URLs visited - Content of HTTPS traffic - Message content

How most providers handle your data

Most eSIM providers require an account to purchase — linking your email, purchase history, and usage data to a persistent profile. Some share or sell aggregated data to third parties. Almost all require your email to send the QR code.

How LTE.app is different

LTE.app was architected from day one to minimise data collection:

No account required. You can purchase an eSIM plan with just a payment method. No email, no registration. The QR code appears on the confirmation page — no email needed.

Anonymous device IDs. The app assigns a randomly generated anonymous ID, not tied to your email, phone number, or identity.

No traffic inspection. LTE.app does not inspect or log the destination of your traffic. We see total GB used — not what those GBs were used for.

Analytics is opt-in. The analytics toggle in the app is off by default. You actively choose to contribute speed test data. This is rare in the industry.

No third-party data sales. LTE.app does not sell or share usage data with advertisers or data brokers.

If privacy matters to you

Use LTE.app for the eSIM plan. Use a VPN for your actual internet traffic, especially on public networks. The combination of a privacy-first eSIM provider and a reputable VPN gives you strong protection on both layers.
