Data running low? How top-ups and alerts work by plan
LTE.app monitors every active eSIM hourly and alerts you before you run out. Here's how usage alerts, expiry reminders, and rescue eSIM failover work β and which features belong to which tier.

The monitoring loop
Every hour, LTE.app checks the remaining data on every active eSIM linked to your account. This runs silently in the background β no action required from you.
When your usage crosses a threshold, you get a push notification. Tap it and you go straight to the top-up screen for that specific eSIM. Everything in one tap.
Usage alerts (all tiers)
| Data used | Remaining | Notification |
|---|---|---|
| 75% | 25% left | "Data Running Low" |
| 90% | 10% left | "Critical: Almost Out of Data" |
Both alerts include a direct link to the top-up screen. Each fires at most once per day per eSIM β no spam.
The 10% threshold gives you a real window to act. Most plans carry 1β10 GB, so 10% remaining is 100 MBβ1 GB β enough time to find Wi-Fi and top up before you go dark.
How to top up
From a push notification β tap the alert and you're taken directly to your eSIM with the top-up option pre-selected.
Manually β Account β My eSIMs β tap your active plan β Top Up β choose a data add-on β pay.
Top-ups activate instantly. No new QR code, no reinstall. Your existing eSIM balance increases immediately.
Expiry reminders (Pro and Premium only)
Data running out isn't the only way to go offline. eSIM plans also have expiry dates β a plan with 2 GB remaining but an expiry date of Saturday stops working on Saturday.
Pro and Premium users receive automatic expiry reminders:
| Before expiry | Notification |
|---|---|
| 7 days | "eSIM Expiring Soon" |
| 3 days | "eSIM Expires in 3 Days" |
| 1 day | "eSIM Expires Tomorrow" |
| Day of | "eSIM Expires Today" |
Each reminder includes a Renew button that opens your eSIM details where you can extend or buy a replacement plan. Free users receive the 75% and 90% data alerts only β no expiry reminders.
Rescue eSIM failover (Premium only)
Premium users get a last line of defense: if the primary eSIM is exhausted or expired, the app automatically activates a pre-installed backup.
The trigger β all three must be true: 1. Primary eSIM is β€5% remaining, or has expired or depleted completely 2. User is on a Premium subscription 3. The phone's live mobile signal (MCC) confirms the user is still in the destination country
Point 3 matters. LTE.app uses the physical SIM's carrier registration β the same signal your carrier uses to know you're abroad β not a guess based on your itinerary. If you've landed home already, the failover doesn't fire. If you're still in Bali when your data runs out, it does.
The backup eSIM activates in the background. You receive a push: *"You're about to lose data. Your backup eSIM is activating now. Tap to top up or buy a new plan."* No action needed to stay connected.
