Thailand for digital nomads: connectivity guide 2026

Wi-Fi speeds, 4G coverage, best co-working areas, and eSIM recommendations for nomads based in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Bali.

Is Thailand good for remote work?

Short answer: yes, with caveats. Thailand has world-class internet in major cities. Median fixed broadband speeds in Bangkok exceed 200 Mbps. AIS 5G covers central Bangkok. The issues are consistency (power outages during monsoon season in the north) and infrastructure in rural areas.

Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is Southeast Asia's most popular nomad base for good reason. The Nimman Road area has dozens of co-working spaces (CAMP, MANA, Punspace) with gigabit Wi-Fi. 4G coverage from AIS and True Move is excellent across the city and old town.

eSIM: AIS has the widest coverage in Chiang Mai and surrounding mountains. LTE.app Thailand plans use AIS as primary. Expect 15–50 Mbps on LTE in the city centre.

Worst case: Monsoon season (June–October) brings power outages that take co-working Wi-Fi offline. An eSIM is your backup.

Bangkok

Bangkok has faster internet than most European cities. 5G is live across major areas. The BTS and MRT stations have LTE signal throughout. If you are here for business travel (meetings, a few calls), any plan works perfectly.

Co-working: Hubba, The Hive, and Mango Tree Office are well-equipped. Most cafes with "Free Wi-Fi" signs in Thong Lo and Ekkamai have reliable connections.

Koh Samui and island coverage

Island connectivity has improved dramatically since 2022. Koh Samui has solid 4G from AIS. Koh Phangan is good in Had Rin and Thong Sala, weaker on the west coast. Koh Tao has acceptable 4G for email and calls — not for heavy uploads.

Do not rely on island internet for high-stakes video calls without testing first.

What to budget for connectivity

  • 30-day Thailand eSIM (15 GB): $25–$35
  • Co-working day pass: 150–300 THB ($4–$9)
  • Co-working monthly membership: 3,000–6,000 THB ($85–$170)

Total monthly connectivity budget: $200–$250 for most nomads.
