Step-by-step fixes

1
Enable data roaming — this is usually the only fix needed
Settings → Cellular → your eSIM line → Data Roaming: On. International eSIMs always count as "roaming" even if the plan is designed for that country. Without this toggle, the eSIM connects to carriers but does not pass data.
2
Toggle airplane mode after landing
After landing, put your phone in airplane mode for 30 seconds, then disable it. This forces a fresh carrier scan in your new country and re-registers your eSIM to the local network.
3
Try manual carrier selection
iOS: Settings → Cellular → Network Selection → Automatic off → select a carrier. Android: Settings → Network & Internet → Mobile Network → Network Operators → Search manually. If one carrier does not work, try another from the list.
4
Disable your home SIM temporarily
Your home SIM may be taking priority for data. Temporarily turn it off (Settings → Cellular → your home SIM → Turn Off). This forces all data through the eSIM.
5
Use Smart Coach for automatic diagnosis
Open LTE.app and tap Smart Coach. It checks your APN settings, roaming state, and carrier connection automatically — even without mobile data — and walks you through the exact fix for your device and carrier.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my eSIM work at home but not abroad?
Travel eSIMs use roaming infrastructure. Even country-specific plans technically "roam" on the local carriers, which requires data roaming to be enabled on your device. Always enable data roaming before departing.
My eSIM worked in one city but stopped in another part of the country. What is wrong?
Coverage gaps exist in every country. Your eSIM plan may use a specific carrier that does not cover all regions. Try manually selecting a different carrier in your network settings, or use Smart Coach to check coverage.
