Europe eSIM Fix
eSIM Not Working in Europe?
European eSIM plans cover multiple countries through carrier roaming agreements. If your eSIM works in one country but not another — or not at all — here's what to check.

Step-by-step fixes
1
Enable data roaming — essential for Europe plans
Multi-country Europe eSIM plans technically route all data as "roaming" even within their coverage area. Data roaming must be enabled. Settings → Cellular → eSIM line → Data Roaming: On.
2
Manually select a local carrier in each country
When crossing borders, automatic carrier selection occasionally fails. Manually select a carrier on arrival: Settings → Cellular → Network Selection → search → select the local carrier. For example, in France: Orange or SFR. In Germany: Telekom or Vodafone.
3
Check plan coverage for your specific country
Europe eSIM plans vary in coverage. Some cover EU+UK+Switzerland+Norway; others are EU-only. Verify your plan covers your destination at lte.app. Non-EU countries (Albania, Serbia, North Macedonia) may require a separate plan.
4
Toggle airplane mode at each border crossing
When crossing from France to Switzerland, Spain to Portugal, or similar, toggle airplane mode on for 30 seconds to force the modem to re-scan for local carriers in the new country.
5
Use Smart Coach for automatic diagnosis
Open LTE.app and tap Smart Coach. It checks your APN settings, roaming state, and carrier connection automatically — even without mobile data — and walks you through the exact fix for your device and carrier.
Frequently asked questions
My Europe eSIM works in France but not Spain. Why?
This is a carrier selection issue. In Spain, disable automatic carrier selection and manually choose Vodafone ES, Movistar, or Orange ES. If the plan covers Spain, this fixes it. Confirm Spain is in your plan's country list.
Does my Europe eSIM work in the UK after Brexit?
LTE.app Europe plans include the UK. Brexit does not affect eSIM operation — eSIM coverage is contractual between carriers, not subject to EU membership rules. Your UK carrier is usually EE, Vodafone, or O2.
Why does my eSIM slow down in some European countries?
Some European multi-country eSIM plans have different speed tiers per country. Throttling is sometimes applied in non-primary coverage countries. Check your plan's speed notes in LTE.app, or manually switch carriers to find a faster connection.
