Offline connectivity: Flash Chat and eSIM Rescue explained

Two of LTE.app's most unique features work without any internet connection at all — here's how Flash Chat and eSIM Rescue keep you reachable even when networks fail.

The problem with "connectivity" apps

Most travel apps only work when you already have connectivity. That's a circular problem — the one moment you most need help is the one moment the app is useless.

LTE.app is built differently. Two community features work entirely without an internet connection.

Flash Chat — encrypted messaging without data

Flash Chat uses your phone's Bluetooth and WiFi Direct radios to create a local mesh with other LTE.app users in your area. Messages travel device-to-device, not through any server.

What this means practically:

  • You can message fellow travelers nearby even with zero data and no cell signal
  • All messages are end-to-end encrypted — the server never sees your content
  • Messages auto-delete when the channel expires — no persistent history
  • No account, phone number, or identity required

Flash Chat works at airports during outages, in remote areas, on airplanes in flight, and anywhere else where traditional connectivity has failed.

SOS Emergency Broadcast

Inside Flash Chat, there's an emergency mode. Tap SOS and a broadcast goes out to every LTE.app user within Bluetooth/WiFi range. Nearby users see an alert and can respond, relay your message to a wider area, or assist directly.

This is part of LTE.app's Always-Reachable commitment — keeping critical communication alive when networks fail.

eSIM Rescue — getting online when you're already offline

Here's the catch-22 of running out of data: activating a new eSIM requires an internet connection. But you have no internet connection.

eSIM Rescue solves this through community relay:

  1. You open LTE.app in offline mode and send a Rescue request
  2. Nearby LTE.app users detect your request via Bluetooth/WiFi Direct
  3. A nearby user with an internet connection relays your eSIM activation on your behalf
  4. Your eSIM activates — without you needing any connectivity

Your rescue helpers receive bonus LTE Tokens for their assistance. The whole system is anonymous and voluntary.

Why these features matter

Both features reflect the same design principle: a connectivity app should work *even when connectivity is broken*. Flash Chat and eSIM Rescue are the implementation of that principle — and they're available to all users, free of charge.
