iPad Fix

iPad eSIM Not Working?

iPad eSIM setup differs slightly from iPhone. The cellular data settings are in a different location and the eSIM must be set specifically for tablet use. Here's the fix.

Step-by-step fixes

1
Confirm your iPad model has cellular capability
Not all iPads have cellular. Only iPad models with "Wi-Fi + Cellular" in the name have eSIM. Wi-Fi-only iPads cannot use eSIMs. Check Settings — if you see no "Cellular" option, your iPad is Wi-Fi only.
2
Enable cellular data on the eSIM line
Settings → Cellular Data → enable "Cellular Data" → select your travel eSIM as the data source. Unlike iPhone, iPad does not have a separate "Cellular Data" sub-menu — it is at the top level of Cellular settings.
3
Enable data roaming
Settings → Cellular Data → Cellular Data Options → Data Roaming: On. iPad requires this just like iPhone — without it, no data passes even when connected to a carrier.
4
Toggle airplane mode
Enable airplane mode for 30 seconds, disable, wait 60 seconds for carrier registration. Check Cellular Data settings to confirm carrier name appears.
5
Use iPad as hotspot source
If your iPhone has an active eSIM, an iPad without cellular can use iPhone's personal hotspot instead. This avoids needing a separate iPad eSIM plan.
6
Use Smart Coach for automatic diagnosis
Open LTE.app and tap Smart Coach. It checks your APN settings, roaming state, and carrier connection automatically — even without mobile data — and walks you through the exact fix for your device and carrier.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the same LTE.app eSIM plan on both iPhone and iPad?
No. Each eSIM plan is tied to one device. You need separate plans for iPad and iPhone. However, your iPhone's personal hotspot can share data to your iPad without a second plan.
My iPad shows full bars but no internet. What is wrong?
Enable data roaming: Settings → Cellular Data → Cellular Data Options → Data Roaming: On. This is the most common cause of iPad eSIM connectivity failures.
